6. Alone

Niyati excused herself softly, her voice barely above a whisper. Her heart felt unbearably heavy, each beat echoing the emptiness that the thought of his absence left behind. She slipped into her room, shutting the door gently behind her, and her eyes immediately fell on his packed bag. Within an hour, he would be gone. She wanted to show composure, to tell herself it was okay, yet her face betrayed everything her heart could not contain.

The room seemed suddenly suffocating, the walls closing in with the weight of unspoken longing. Without thinking, she moved to the balcony swing, sliding onto it quietly. Her hand instinctively rested on her rounded belly, the small life within her offering a silent comfort amid the ache.
